Fools Rush in Essay Example For Students

Fools Rush in Essay Fools Rush In Movie Review â€Å"Fools Rush In’ is a love story that has magic, glamour and romance. Mathew Perry plays a Manhattan go getter by the name of Alex Whitman who is sent to Las Vegas to oversee the construction and launching of the latest link in an international chain of nightclubs. Shortly after arriving in Vegas, Alex Whitman meets Isabel Fuentes who is played by Salma Hayek. While waiting in line for the restroom in a small, bustling Mexican restaurant, Isabel, an aspiring photographer, turned on her considerable charm on the boyish Alex to let her go in ahead of him. They instantly hit it off and partake in a one night stand. Subsequently, Alex and his partner pal get their club project underway, and Isabel, who left Alex without so much as her last name or phone number, is out of Alex’s life. However, Isabel appears three months later with news that she is pregnant and he is the father of the child she is carrying. Alex launches on a â€Å"women’s right to choose† speech when she cuts him off, saying that she intends to keep the child and that she expects nothing from him whatsoever. She felt that informing him that he was going to be a father was the honorable thing to do. Alex is from a WASP (White Anglo Saxon Protestant) background while Isabel’s of a proud Mexican American heritage. Distant from his parents, Isabel tells Alex that her relatives need to meet him at least once. â€Å"Fools Rush In† invites its viewers to consider how well many people really know each other when they get married, and how crucial trust and candor are at any relationship. Isabel can sense that Alex is not the marring kind and she lies to him by telling him that she had a miscarriage to release him of any duties he may have felt. Alex realizes that Isabel was a loving person and he tries to find her. Isabel has left to spend some time with her grandmother, and it is during this time that her grandmother convinces her to return and find Alex and tell him the truth. Alex waits for Isabel’s return on the bridge that she must cross to come home. He immediately spots her jeep and stands in the middle of the bridge to force her to stop. When she exits the jeep he notices that she is still pregnant. Overwhelmed with joy that she did not have a miscarriage, he professes his love for her by telling her that fate, not the baby had brought them together. Isabel goes into labor and delivers a baby girl. The movie ends with Alex and Isabel getting married in the true Mexican fashion with her family and friends.

Cardiac Arrests and Hospital Mortality †Free Samples to Students

Question: Discuss about the Cardiac Arrests and Hospital Mortality. Answer: Introduction: This assignment demonstrates the reasons due to which the nursing staff and is not able to recognize the condition of a deteriorating patient in preventing cardiopulmonary arrest and reducing mortality. This is because of poor communication skills between the staff members and also when an emergency situation is not responded in a proper manner (Beitler et al., 2011). The ability of the nursing staff in responding and recognizing the signs and symptoms of patient deterioration in a proper manner plays a crucial role in the improvement of the health condition in patients. It results in a reduction of morbidity and mortality of patients. Respiratory rate and the rate of heart beat are the two most important parameters that should be monitored in a regular manner during cardiopulmonary arrest. It is important for the hospital staff to be aware of subtle changes in the status of health condition of the patients through proper measurement of vital signs (Santamaria, Tobin Holmes, 2010). There are times when the nurses recognize ill health of patients through intuition as well. They should have knowledge about the medical history of the patients. Nursing staff should be properly trained and must have appropriate clinical skills that would enable them to recognize and prevent the chances of cardiopulmonary arrest in patients thus reducing the chances of mortality (Bellomo et al., 2011). The usage of specialized equipments also influences the ability of nurses to recognize the deterioration of the patient in a timely manner. When the condition of the health of a patient is detected early, it empowers the doctors and the clinicians to incorporate interventions in an effective manner (Konrad et al., 2010). There are several causes that lead to the failure of the hospital staff in recognizing deterioration of the patient condition. This is due to a lack of proper communication between the nursing staff and other health care professionals including doctors and clinicians. There are times when the nurses in the ward do not have proper access to equipments and skills required to be used in an emergency situation such as cardiopulmonary arrest. There is a decrease in the number of nurse: patient ratios which lead to issues in recognizing the health condition of the patient (Chan et al., 2010). Early warning systems are quite effective in preventing the number of deaths by monitoring the health condition of patients. They are used widely used to track the deteriorating condition and response of the patient by the critical care teams. The use of these systems was demonstrated by the critical care educators and proper training was provided to improve the condition of deteriorating patients (Kim et al., 2010). Hence, it can be concluded that the nursing staff along with other health care professionals including the doctors and the clinicians should have proper communication among them. They should actively monitor the condition of the deteriorating patient which would help in preventing cardiopulmonary arrest and reduce the rate of mortality. The hospital staff should be dedicated enough to respond to abnormal signs and symptoms of the patients. References Beitler, J. R., Link, N., Bails, D. B., Hurdle, K., Chong, D. H. (2011). great depression interview paper Essays - Agriculture In Mesoamerica

During the great depression and dust bowl period of United States history was tough for many businesses, farmers, and families. Banks in America were going broke left and right at this time. During this time period they also had found some inventive ways to heat their home, such as corn cobs, wood or even coal. During dry years when farmers didn?t have enough bedding for the cattle they would find great big tumble weeds and use those. During the great depression money was scarce so money for entertainment was also scarce. ?The folks were always worried about losing the farm? Says Loretta Buysee. When the Ghent bank went broke, her family lost 500 dollars, a large sum of money at the time. Loretta says ?it was a screwy deal at the time, if you had money in the bank and it crashed, it was gone, but if you took a loan from the bank and it crashed, they still wanted the money they loaned to you?. ?To heat the house was a big chore to do? says Bud Gregoire, he said, they would chop wood in the grove all summer long. He also said that the youngest brother had to walk to the railroad crossing in town and buy some coal off the train for a dollar and odd cents when they could afford it. ?Nothing was wasted? said Bud, they would feed the pigs a whole cob of corn, and go back the next day and pick up the cobs and save those to heat the house. During the dryer years when they couldn?t afford to make cattle bedding, the family would go out and pick tumble weeds out of groves, ditches, anywhere they could find them. ?I hated picking those tumble weeds? says Loretta. ?They poked my fingers, and it was hard to pull the weeds out sometimes?, commented Bud. Loretta said, when they were all don?t picking tumble weeds, they would pick out the biggest one, and that one would be used as a Christmas tree, because the family couldn?t afford to chop down an ever green tree for Christmas. During this time period entertainment was hard to come by, so when they got home sometime, they would go out and find the turkey the family owned. And Loretta said us four kids chased that turkey for hours, and we did this till they had gotten a tail feather. When they got the tail feather they would find a corn cob, and stick the feather into the cob, and throw it and see who?s cob went the furthest. Bud said every Friday night Ghent would have a free movie, and everyone came to see the free movie, Said Bud. Bud said, ?My mother had so many chickens and so many eggs that when she went to town to sell the eggs, she came home with flour, sugar, salt, cloths, and school supplies for the kids and still brought home money?. Bud said the family had 3 cows that they milked every day, and those 3 cows supplied milk for their family and the family up the road, the surrounding community worked together to survive, he said they traded milk and eggs for flour sometimes, or vegetables other times. Bud said ?schools were two to three miles apart, and when his older siblings stopped going to school and he still did, he was the only kid being taught in the school. He said I was the only one in the school for four years. During the great depression, times were hard; families did everything they could do to survive. ?Waste not, Want not? Bud?s parents told him, they were both told by their parents that to be careful of what they sign their name on. And buds parents told him that he shouldn?t buy something if you can?t pay for it. They both said that the great depression has changed their thinking, and that without the great depression in their lifetime, they would have done things that they didn?t.

Definition and Examples of Conduplicatio in Rhetoric

Definition and Examples of Conduplicatio in Rhetoric Conduplicatio is a  rhetorical term for the repetition of one or more words in successive clauses. Also called  reduplicatio or reduplication. According to the Rhetorica ad Herennium (c. 90 BC), the purpose of conduplicatio is usually either amplification or an appeal to pity. Examples and Observations Where have all the flowers gone?Long time passing.Where have all the flowers gone?Long time ago.Where have all the flowers gone?Girls have picked them every one. When will they ever learn? When will they ever learn? (Pete Seeger and Joe Hickerson, Where Have All the Flowers Gone?) The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. (Winston Churchill) Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called sons of God.Blessed are they that have been persecuted for righteousness sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Jesus, Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:3-10) We have also come to this hallowed spot to remind America of the fierce urgency of now. This is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. Now is the time to make real the promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of Gods children. (Martin Luther King, Jr., I Have a Dream, 1963) Then thou thy regal Sceptre shalt lay be,For regal Sceptre then no more shall need,God shall be All in All. But all ye Gods,Adore him, who to compass all this dies,Adore the Son, an honor him as mee. (John Milton, Paradise Lost, Book III, lines 339-343) Now the trumpet summons us againnot as a call to bear arms, though arms we neednot as a call to battle, though embattled we arebut a call to bear the burden of a long twilight struggle, year in and year out, rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation, a struggle against the common enemies of man: tyranny, poverty, disease, and war itself. (President John F. Kennedy, Inaugural Address, 1961) Multiple Cases of Duplicatio Cases of conduplicatio can be combined, as in this fine case where several nouns and modifiers (empire, revenue, army, worst) are repeated to create a tightly wound effect: I allow, indeed, that the Empire of Germany raises her revenue and her troops by quotas and contingents; but the revenue of the Empire and the army of the Empire is the worst revenue and the worst army in the world.[Edmund] Burke, Speech on Conciliation With the Colonies, 1775 The double use of conduplicatio. A classic pattern in the use of this scheme involves two initial claims, each of which is then repeated with elaboration or reasons for it.... We are dregs and scum, sir: the dregs very filthy, the scum very superior.[George Bernard] Shaw, Man and Superman, 1903 (Ward Farnsworth, Farnsworths Classical English Rhetoric. David R. Godine, 2011)

Political Science Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Political Science - Term Paper Example Other government funded interests such as education, military and infrastructure will suffer greatly as well. Why these statements are valid along with imparting a general overview of the national debt so as to illuminate the crisis is this paper’s purpose. When Congress spends more than is collected, the country incurs a debt and must borrow money from foreign countries, mainly China, to remain operational. The national debt currently exceeds $13.7 trillion dollars (U.S. Treasury, 2010). According to the U.S. Treasury Department, the yearly payment on this debt, the deficit, reached $1.29 trillion as of last month (October, 2010). (Bartash, 2010). These figures are well past most peoples’ comprehension. Started in 1791, the national debt was, by those days’ standards, an incredible $75 million. Due to President Andrew Jackson’s prudent approach to government spending, the national debt was lowered to, again adjusted to today’s standards, to only $37 thousand. The Reagan/Bush administrations of the 1980’s ran the debt up by historic proportions. The massive increase of debt was not used for infrastructure, education, public programs or even to finance a war. As a result of Reagan’s ‘trick le down’ economic theory, the money wound up in the pockets of the rich. When President Clinton took office in 1993, the debt stood at $2.4 trillion. In the early 1990’s, Congress adopted a ‘pay-as-you-go’ policy and federal spending cuts which resulted in budget surpluses for four consecutive years. Clinton announced that the nation could pay off the debt by the year 2013 if it stayed on the present course (Schoen, 2006). That optimistic predication has long since been forgotten. Since 2000, the debt has more than quadrupled. In this time of increased globalization of the world’s financial markets, American legislators are more easily able to borrow from other countries that are experiencing a surplus of

Life Words Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Life Words - Essay Example In a sense, people create their own realities which are objective as far as the self is concerned. Given the argument that there is no single reality, it is then quite unreasonable for the society to adopt a universal principle – as in the case of beauty. Yet no matter what the argument is, the question would always go back to the importance of beauty itself in the society. Perhaps, it is rooted to the fact that it is in man’s instinct to dwell into pleasure – and the concept of beauty itself draws pleasure. But then again, whose pleasure has to be satisfied? Is it the person possessing the attribute or the one perceiving it from the outside? Perhaps, it works both ways such that what actually gives delight to a person possessing the attribute is being recognized by the other as beautiful. The one who is looking finds beauty desirable while the one who possess beauty wants to be desired. This is how the society works. Unfortunately, someone would always follow so meone else’s standard – and this standard becomes the society’s reality. Nonetheless, if the society would adopt the belief exemplified by the old adage, given that its meaning has been justified by the idea of varying realities, then people would take delight of their own self rather than of the perceptions of others towards them. If this happens, standards set by the society will be broken as people will be beautiful in their own ways. Having established the essence of the phrase, it is now worthwhile to set the argument on why it should be adopted. First, the concept of beauty – at least, in the modern times – is not necessarily a product of shared cultural beliefs and perceptions but of mass media. In today’s society, the concept of beauty is largely influenced by the mass media which dictate people’s standards that are readily accepted without giving a second thought. The media becomes the standard such that it identifies those w ho are blessed with beauty and those who are not. It is actually absurd that it tends to contradict even the nature of humans itself. Products that promise flawless skin, for instance, came only after people are born with genetically acquired freckles – something which is not supposed to be a big deal as it is natural. But then again, just because these products emerge in the market, freckled individuals, are now consider not beautiful. Needless to say, while people struggle to meet the so-called requirements of being beautiful, the big industry makes profits. The second argument is that the notion of beauty being portrayed seems to encompass only the physical attributes of a person. As such, beauty has become superficial. To a large extent, it degrades the essence of being human. Physical appearance is something that people are born with; hence, it does not reflect anything about them – it is merely a product of nature. It is the character and the abilities that refle ct the kind of person someone is. More than anything, a person who aims to be desirable should prove that he or she is more than just a pretty face. While the society remains to be blinded by superficial standards, the physical appearance does not define a person. In relation to the previous argument, another issue is that the concept of beauty leads to false assumptions. Ideally, someone who possesses beauty is assumed to be good in whatever ways. Yet this issue has been settled that physical appearan
